Koen's been nothing but a screw up his whole career. He's gotten in trouble so many times and had fines added to his debt that he'll never make buyout, and that's just for the times he's gotten caught! Assigned to a fast packet ship as punishment for his last stunt he suddenly finds himself the sole survivor of an unexpected attack as all of his misdeeds come home to roost, one after another. Is it just bad luck? Or karmic payback?
In either case, Koen needs to decide his next move, while he still has a move left.
This story takes place in a future where genetically modified animorphic beings do the jobs too dangerous for humans. Called 'indentured servants' but in fact all but slaves to their corporate masters, they deal with difficult lives, hateful enemies, and corporate politics, as they just try to live their lives.

Set in John Van Stry Children of Steel universe most of the characters are gene engineered anthropomorphised animals that have been raised as slaves working for the human civilisation expanding into space, including the protagonist. But don't let that put you off, its a great ride.

A true Macho Man's Wet Dream. Lots of Action, of all kinds, without unnecessary angst, or porn (I have an imagination, I don't need detailed descriptions). I enjoyed the Heck out of it!
Interesting storyline. Lead character steps up when he had to, and did well.
The story of an anthropomorphic leopard man living in a human universe and fighting against those who hate his kind. A nice ground combat sci-fi military adventure. There isn't a lot of angst in Van Stry's novels or novelettes, the characters simply are and accept their own existence. Enjoyable and keeps the pace moving.
By far this is my favorite story in the setting. Not because of the more adult story line but the realistic view of the characters, and the stress they have. The main character is relatable and likeable, and i was rooting for him. its also nice to see the results of his struggles so well paid off.
This is another book in the world of the future where man has created a race of morphs to do the dangerous work. You would think the main character's identity as a furry might distract, but it doesn't. A third of the way into the book you forget the furry and see only the character as he fights against impossible odds. Nice to have a hero that has failures and isn't the superstar.
Last book in his series I read (Children of Steel) contained a lot of editorial errors. This time the publisher did a much more credible job.
I'm looking forward to the next book on my kindle.
